Christina Villamor is a first-generation Cuban-American artist, fashion archivist, and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Her research-based practice is multi-disciplinary and it often blends hybrid Caribbean religious practices with folklore, film history and theory, pop-culture studies, geological and ecological materials, particularly in relation to the contemporary crisis of climate disruption. The study of these disparate subjects resonates in her hometown and state of Miami and Florida, Cuba, and the Caribbean as sites of colonial inscription.

Storytelling enters her work through photo, video, sculpture, fiber, and installation; assorted issues, from the Fountain of Youth and the colonial history of mango, point to complex narratives that construct beliefs about Florida. Humanity’s place amid nature during the Anthropocene, the narratives concerning cultural heritage and its erasures, and the vast socioeconomic disparities are all part of the aggregated story she hopes to share about Florida, which transcends any specific geographic boundaries and into the cultural imaginary. She graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in motion pictures and studio art and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in photography from California State University Long Beach.
