This portfolio explores how aspiration is translated and warped when luxury aesthetics and glamour are interpreted across class lines. The work finds its subject in these gaps - the imperfect translations that reveal something essential about performance itself. Working collaboratively with my subjects, I am drawn to both intentional performances and the accidents that emerge alongside them: breaks, awkwardness, and the unguarded moments that complicate the staged confrontation with the camera. This approach connects to my ongoing interest in the collapse between the “real” and the “performed,” inspired by both Technicolor films and 90s hip-hop videos. The direct, frontal quality creates an invasive intimacy that complicates the power dynamics of looking and being looked at, while synthetic colors and high contrast push against the natural world.
