Tapestries
2023-ongoing
Hand-dyed cotton, unspun wool
My weaving practice is a continual experiment, where each piece acts as a sketch, a moment of improvisation and play. Crafted on frame and backstrap looms, I weave small-scale tapestries that evolve intuitively, guided by the colors, textures, and rhythms of the material. Most often, yarn is hand-dyed in small batches, drawing on a palette that is responsive to the materials at hand.
These works are not planned or composed, but created in an improvisational manner, much like a sketch. The process itself becomes a space for experimentation, where I explore techniques and weave structures, combinations of materials, and forms of weaving that reflect both my intuition and my reverence for the Latin American textile traditions that inform my practice.
Although small and abstracted, these tapestries serve as personal and cultural studies: miniature experiments that reflect my relationship with weaving as a form of language and where the act of making becomes an ongoing conversation with the past and present of Latin American craft.
